Soul-ESP- psycho kinesis
Avijit replies to Karina
Just giving some quick response of Karina's posting. It seems that the rational person also have some inherited superstition in their mind :-)
Karina said : also consider whether or not a soul exist, and the other points you've >raised. I, personally, believe there is a soul/spirit...
My reply: so Karina, can you define what is spirit/soul made of ? How was they created ? If life and consciousness were the characters of soul and death were caused by its escape from the body, then all living bodies, plants and animals, should have souls. Is there one soul or many souls in a body? For instance, several plants like rose, banana and grass and even animals like Hydra and corals propagate by budding and cuttings. Is the soul of their bodies cut or are there several souls in a body which also bud? It is possible, by medical science, to revive a body to life after it has been ordinarily declared dead due to drowning, suffocation or asphyxiation. Is the departed soul called back? In procreation, the sperm of the father and the egg of the mother combine to go to form the body of the offspring. Sperm and egg are living bodies. Have they souls different from the souls of the parents and how do the different souls of the sperm and egg unite in the body of the child? These and many relevant questions of common observation expose the myth of belief in the existence of the soul.
Let me tell you some of the the history of "soul" that you believed in. So far according to the anthropological data we have, religious faith of human being along with the concept of soul evolved from our ancient ancestor Neanderthal man who used to live in this world about 40-50 thousand to 250 thousand years ago in Mousterian period which was a part of Pleistocene epoch (Ref. “Dhormer Utsho shondhaney” : B.P. Sahu). There is no evidence of any ritual or religious belief or any example of any religious custom is found in earlier stages of hominids (like Pithecanthropus erectus or Sinanthropous pekinensis) before Neanderthals. It is because their brain (for e.g Java man had had a brain size of 940 cc which is only about two-third of modern homo sapience) was not so advanced to imagine such
complex entity. It is the same reason behind that cows, goats, tigers or even gorillas or chimpanzees cannot imagine any god. Neanderthals created god in their own image :-)Soul is as much a falsehood as god is. The stories connected with ghosts, spirit communication, salvation and life after death are fancies of the primitive mind which answered the question of death in a primitive way. Now we understand death as the failure of the mechanism of the body either due to wear and tear or to an accidental obstruction. Advances in medical science can repair the body and can, likely, protect it from death altogether.
As it is, body becomes dust after death. Nothing survives death, except, figuratively speaking, memories of the good and bad of one's life continued in the progeny. Ancestral worship and the associate ritual is mere
superstition.
Karina Said : as I also believe there is ESP (I've known it intuitively before, and now I know it >scientifically, via experimentation),
I do not blame you. Human (by nature) loves miracle; love to hear miraculous/astonishing stories. Haven’t you read in newspapers or heard in rumor that some charming child dying of some irremediable disease who was
marvelously/miraculously cured by paani-pora, talisman or amulet of god man
(dhormo-guru/peer/hujur) ? Haven’t you got those mass-mails claiming that if
you spread the mail to at least 20 person, it will bring good fortune – if you ignore it will bring havoc? People are really believing those mails and spreading to each-other without knowing any fact or reason behind. If you think logically you may percept that Those ESP and parapsychology are all hoax. Because Miracles don't happen. There are no miracles at all for any man to do them or to claim them. Miracles, as acts performed by supernatural powers, never occurred and never do occur. Miracles described in the Holy Bible or in any scripture or mythology are wholly false. Jesus did not need the power to perform miracles in order to serve the people and to show a new way of life towards truth and happiness. He was a great revolutionary who
valiantly fought the injustices of scribes and Pharisees of his time. He was a man among common men. So was every prophet. In fact every prophet was more atheistic than his contemporaries and he was persecuted as such. Jesus was accused of speaking blasphemy (St. Matthew 26:65); Mohammed had to fly from Mecca to Medina for the safety of his own life and the lives of his followers. There are no miracles at all for any man. But it is the weakness of the common man to ascribe miracles to greatness. Jesus did not need to walk on water or to curse the fig tree for recommending his sermon on the mount. On the contrary, attributing miracles to great men creates an unnecessary gulf between common men and great men. Consequently common people rest content with worshiping great men instead of adopting their way of life. Belief in miracles, divine inspiration and revelation cuts off great men from common
folk and deprives the masses of the benefits of good leadership. From the point of view of human progress, belief in miracles is not only false but it is a positive hindrance.
I know why you believe in miracles, ESP, psychokinesis etc. as scientific facts. There are two reasons in general. When those miarcles happens in front of your own eyes (by some charlatan claiming supernatural power) you might not resolve the trick (as you may not know about all the magical
tricks), and you believed that this person is really doing something miracle. It is not for you only. One Russian ESP claimer even got the certificates from Neuclear Physicists/scientists that she has got the power of ESP. Scientist are also normal human being. They may have some special
knowledge in specific area (for example nuclear physics) but may be quite ignorant about magical tricks. But when they cannot decipher the tricks, they think by their self-esteem "ego" that even such royal scientist "like me" could not find any trick ...so it must be miracle ! No. Karina . totally wrong.
Scientists also may have some lacking in knowledge in particular arena. I still remember that the Russian ESP claimer's (who had also some certificate from nuclear scientist approving his mystic power) paranormal and pseudoscientific claims was demystified by our legend demystifier of Calcutta Prabir Ghosh (http://humanists.net/avijit/prabir/ ). Prabir Ghosh not only demystified all her tricks and paranormal and pseudoscientific
claims, but also did the same magic in front of thousand audience without
claiming any miracles/supernatural power.Second reason of your belief may be continuous advertisement of media. Those
media always try to present para-psychology as science, ESP as science, Astrology
as science...etc to strengthen the "belief in miracle" in common people. If astrologers cold correctly predict future, then it
would not a hard task for them fortune (or predic) correctly the exact number (token) of the lottery to be winning. But can they do it? How many astrologers have you found in your life who had won lottery ? For my personal experience, I can tell you- I am quite familiar of some magical tricks. I know quite well how those "bhondo" (charlatan) Astrologers predict about future, or how those gurus do the magical tricks to claim their supernatural power. All good magician supposed to do the same thing without claiming any supernatural power.
If you really think some of your known person who have some paranormal/supernatural/psychic power, I will humbly invite you to take the following challenges :
A. Challenge of James Randi :
__________________________To raise public awareness of these issues, the Foundation offers a $1,000,000 prize to any person or persons who can demonstrate any psychic, supernatural or paranormal ability of any kind under mutually agreed upon scientific conditions. This prize money is held in a special account which cannot be accessed for any purpose other than the awarding of the prize. For Details :
http://www.randi.org/research/index.html
B. Challenge of Dr. Kovoor:
________________________
Kovvor said, "It was to convince the ignorant masses that there is absolutely no truth in the claims of these hoaxers that I have been challenging them staking all I have to demonstrate their powers under fraud-proof conditions".http://www.uni-giessen.de/~gk1415/kovoor.htm
C. Challenge of Prabir Ghosh
__________________________‘There was a time when there were a lot of godmen in Calcutta,’ says Ghosh
with a schoolboy grin. ‘Not any more.’Prabir Ghosh Chalenges for any kind of paranormal/psychik claim (1,50,000
Indian Rupi)http://humanists.net/avijit/prabir/
Karina, please note that already thousands of godman, ESP claimer took their
challenge and failed (as usual) as they used their dirty magical tricks to claim for their supernatural power which were demystified by Koovor, Randi or Prabir Ghosh many times.
I will like to conclude by Quoting Dr. Kovoor:"...nobody has and nobody ever had supernatural powers. They exist only in
the pages of scriptures and sensation-mongering newspapers. " ---- Kovoor.
Take care,
